A Homegrown New Mexican
I am a 12th generation, Northern New Mexican, from Alcalde, a small farming community north of Española. That is where I spent my childhood and that is where I currently reside.
My work ethic was instilled at a young age. I grew up helping my father with his contracting business, raising cattle, cleaning the acequia every Spring and growing crops of hay and alfalfa. I also grew up as an outdoorsman and to this day enjoy hunting and fishing in the vast wilderness found within Congressional District 3.
I was blessed to be brought up in a musical family. I play several instruments but play the saxophone in my family band "Los Blue Ventures".
I am blessed to have my roots in Alcalde, a community with a rich New Mexico history. Alcalde, the Spanish word for “Mayor”, is situated next to Ohkay Owingeh (formerly known as San Juan Pueblo and the first capital in the US which was established in 1598). Ohkay Owingeh is the ending point for the 1,500-mile historic Camino Real, the ancient trade route which extended from Mexico City, and which played a key role in cross-cultural trade and commerce.
In 2018, I was elected to the New Mexico House of Representatives, District 40. As Representative I have introduced dozens of legislation for Northern New Mexico, fought for millions in critical funding and projects. I am the current Vice Chairman of the House Appropriations Committee. My proudest moment as Representative has been fighting for a homeless shelter for the Espanola Valley.
As your Congressman, I will bring with me the strong work ethic instilled in me as a child, my legislative and work experience, a love for the rural and outdoor lifestyle, and a deep appreciation for the ancient and multi-culture history of New Mexico.
I will fight for our New Mexico Values every day in Congress.
